Greco di Tufo

A few buckets of the beautiful greco grape.  The selection we imported is called Greco di Tufo which originates in Campania.  Tufo is the name of a small village near Avellino in Campania where they grow greco, but it is also a word meaning limestone in Southern Italy.  Many of the white wines of Southern Italy are grown on the tufo, contributing to their distinctive chalky minerality.  Similarly many of inland Australia’s wine growing regions like the Murray Darling sit on a limestone shelf which was formed from coral and other marine organisms in an earlier geological era when the region was a great inland sea.
